The C82 Dual Port Multifunction Board is designed to make wiring and controlling a CNC machine easier when using an Ethernet Smooth Stepper (ESS) or Ether-Mach motion controller. Instead of wiring directly into the motion controller, the C82 gives you organized screw terminals, relay outputs, spindle control, safety monitoring, and input/output connections in one clean interface board.
This board is a strong choice for CNC builders who want a more complete control setup with room for spindle control, E-stop wiring, limit/home switches, driver fault monitoring, and relay-controlled accessories.
Key Features
-
Designed for Ethernet Smooth Stepper and Ether-Mach controllers
- Provides a clean breakout/interface board for CNC motion-control systems using ESS or Ether-Mach hardware.
-
Dual-port access for expanded CNC control
- Gives access to more I/O than a simple single-port breakout board, making it better suited for machines with more switches, relays, sensors, or control features.
-
Built-in spindle speed control
- Includes PWM-based speed control, useful for controlling compatible VFD/spindle setups through your CNC control software.
-
Two built-in electromechanical relays
- Relays include Normally Open (NO) and Normally Closed (NC) positions.
- Useful for spindle control, coolant, vacuum, dust collection, or other machine accessories.
-
Safety and fault monitoring
- Designed to monitor important CNC safety signals including:
- E-Stop
- Safety Charge Pump
- VFD fault
- Driver fault
- Designed to monitor important CNC safety signals including:
-
Optoisolated inputs
- Helps protect the control electronics by electrically isolating input signals.
- The manual lists optoisolated inputs working at 5–24VDC.
-
Flexible input/output logic
- Supports discrete input and output connections for CNC switches, relays, sensors, and other machine-control devices.
- Outputs can be configured depending on the control setup, including open-collector or TTL-style output behavior according to the manual summary.
-
Safety Charge Pump support
- The board uses a microcontroller-based Safety Charge Pump system.
- This helps make sure the machine control board only activates when the CNC software is actively running and communicating properly. CNC4PC’s Mach3 setup guide describes the charge pump as a watchdog that allows the board to activate only while the control software is active.
-
Status LEDs on inputs and outputs
- Built-in indicator lights make wiring, setup, and troubleshooting easier.
-
DIN rail mountable
- Designed for cleaner installation inside a CNC control cabinet.
-
Pluggable screw terminals
- Makes wiring easier and more serviceable compared with fixed terminal blocks.
-
Compatible with C34 connector boards
- Works with CNC4PC’s C34 connector board family for easier connection to popular stepper and servo drives.
- This can simplify wiring for step/direction, enable, and fault signals.
-
External power required
- The manual states the board requires an external power supply between 10–30VDC at 700mA to power the board logic and connected ESS or Ether-Mach controller.
