CNC v1.2 Assembly: Stepper Drivers, Motors, and Power
This page is a legacy assembly resource for the CNC v1.2 machine setup, focused on stepper drivers, motors, and power wiring.
It is kept as a support reference for older BuildYourCNC machines and electronics setups.
What This Guide Covers
This guide covers the basic electronics areas involved in assembling an older CNC machine control system.
- Stepper motors
- Stepper drivers
- Power supply connections
- Basic CNC motion control wiring
- Older BuildYourCNC machine assembly information
Stepper Motors
Stepper motors are used to move the CNC machine axes. They receive controlled power from stepper drivers and move in small steps.
Each axis of the CNC machine usually has its own motor and driver.
Stepper Drivers
Stepper drivers sit between the CNC controller and the stepper motors.
The controller sends motion signals, and the driver sends the correct power to the motor.
Correct wiring and current settings are important. Incorrect setup can cause missed steps, weak movement, overheating, or electronics damage.
Power Wiring
The power supply provides voltage and current to the CNC electronics system.
Before connecting power, always check the voltage requirements for the drivers, motors, and controller.
- Check voltage ratings
- Check current requirements
- Use proper wire size
- Keep wiring organized
- Power off the system before making changes
Important Safety Note
CNC electronics can be damaged if wired incorrectly. Electrical work can also be dangerous.
If you are not sure how to wire the motors, drivers, or power supply, ask someone experienced with CNC electronics.
Legacy Support Note
This is older BuildYourCNC support content. Some parts, wiring methods, or recommendations may have changed over time.
